In search of Hellendoorn

For the 2 year long project Moving and Landing in the municipality of Hellendoorn (The Netherlands), I built/sewed a small copy of the church that was originally the centre of that area out of tent material that was produced in the factory that is the centre of the region and most important building these days. I walked around with the church-tent on a small cart, put it up in public space and talked with people about art, history, religion or anything they wanted to talk about. Afterwards the church-tent was in a travelling exhibition in cultural and social centers in the same area, accompanied by photos and videos.

I also (tried to) walk the exact border of the municipality, a line that is invisible in the landscape and only exists on maps. I walked through farmers’ fields, crossed waterways, walked through the forest, trying to stay on the invisible line.

Videos: 1. Walking with the church-tent 2. Walking the border 3. Drawing the border in the palm of my hand.

Final exhibition in the City Hall of Nijverdal.
