Where We Wandered (www)

During a residency at the Nou Côclea art centre in Catalonia in the spring of 2017 I stayed in the same place for a month and virtually walked  a route I was going to walk in real with a group of people in summer. I collected information online every day and “walked” or moved through the route for that day through Google maps. I wrote a story about my “walk” as if i was really walking it, using websites about locations on route, weather reports and online information from people who were actually there. At the same time I grew oak saplings out of acorns I had collected in the forest where I spent most of my childhood in the Netherlands.

In August I walked the route together with a changing group of people during the Grand Tour. My fellow walkers carried the oak saplings and we planted them on significant locations along the road. I wore a three-piece business suit while walking, it was embroidered by myself and the group members during the walk.
